Audit Trail (Premium)

See who did what, when, and how — across every binder. User actions, API calls, and AI pipeline runs in one firm-wide audit trail.

Audit Trail is a Premium feature that records every meaningful action in your firm — whether it came from a person, the API, Tallybot, or one of Tallyfor's AI pipelines — and presents it as a readable timeline. Ask your Tallyfor contact to enable it for your firm.

Binder-level audit

Open any binder and click the Audit tab in the right-side inspector panel.

You'll see a chronological feed (newest first) of everything that happened in that binder, written in plain language, for example:

  • "Rolled forward from 2023 → 2024"

  • "Categorized 47 accounts · claude-sonnet-4 · 4,820 tokens · 3.2s"

  • "Finalized the binder"

Use the Actor, Source, Event, and Date filter chips at the top to narrow the feed. Each row's three-dot menu lets you Copy permalink (a shareable link that jumps straight to that thread), Show raw JSON, or filter by that actor or source. Expand a row to see full details.

When you trigger an AI action (like Classify), the audit trail threads your request and the AI's result together with a ↳ indicator, so you can see exactly what each click produced.

Firm Audit dashboard

Firm owners and admins also get a firm-wide view: open Firm Audit from the sidebar.

The dashboard shows:

  • Totals — Total events, broken out by Human, Agent / API, Internal AI, and System

  • Activity timeline — every event across the firm (When, Source, Actor, Event, Binder, Type), filterable by binder type (Tax, CAS, Tax Planning), actor, source, event, and date range

  • Top actors and Top binders — your busiest team members and binders; click a binder to jump to its audit tab

  • AI pipeline volume — latency and token usage for classification, parsing, and book-to-cash JE pipelines

What gets recorded

Events include rollforwards, binder finalization, journal entries, book-to-tax runs, imports, file attachments, classification and parsing runs, binder/client creation, report downloads, and more. Each event records who did it (user or API key, with name and role), how (UI, bulk action, Tallybot, public API, AI pipeline, or system automation), and when.

Retention

The last 12 months of activity are available directly in the app; older activity is archived automatically and is never deleted.

FAQ

I see an upsell message instead of the audit trail. Your firm doesn't have Audit Trail enabled yet — contact your Tallyfor representative.

The tab says "No events recorded yet." The audit trail starts recording from the next action taken on the binder after the feature is enabled.
