Client Accounting (CAS) Binders

Run monthly or quarterly bookkeeping with per-period trial balances and a Period Delta report. Switch periods from Display Settings on the trial balance header.

Run monthly or quarterly bookkeeping work inside Tallyfor with a Client Accounting Services (CAS) binder. Unlike a Tax binder, which holds a single year-end trial balance, a CAS binder holds a trial balance for every period in the year so you can track and report on each month or quarter.

What it does

A CAS binder pre-seeds all twelve months (or four quarters) when you create it. Each period carries its own trial balance and journal, workpapers are filtered by period, and a Period Delta report shows what changed between periods. You switch periods from Display Settings on the trial balance header.

How to turn it on

Client Accounting is a self-enable feature. Open the What's New panel and enable Client Accounting under the Self-Enable section. Once enabled, a Binder type option appears in the Create New Binder modal.

Creating a CAS binder

  1. On the Clients page, select a client and click New Binder.

  2. Choose the Year.

  3. Under Binder type, select CAS Binder.

  4. Under Cadence, choose Monthly or Quarterly.

  5. Select an existing Tax binder to roll forward from, or create a new empty binder.

  6. Click Create. Tallyfor pre-seeds all periods for the year.

Note: You can't roll a CAS binder forward from another CAS binder. Pick a Tax binder as the source, or start a new empty binder.

Working in a CAS binder

The binder's view controls live in a single Display Settings popup on the trial balance header:

  • Open Display Settings and set the active period to move between Jan–Dec (monthly) or Q1–Q4 (quarterly).

  • The trial balance, journal, and workpapers update to reflect the active period.

  • The active period also shows as a compact pill on the header, so you can confirm where you are without opening the popup.

  • You can change the cadence from the same popup.

  • CAS binders are labeled CAS Monthly or CAS Quarterly in the client's binder list.

Changed in July 2026: the period switcher used to be a dropdown on the binder header. It's now inside Display Settings alongside the other view controls, and it's available in a brand-new binder — previously you had to import accounts before you could pick a period. See Display Settings: Binder View Controls for the full list of controls.

Reporting

In addition to the standard reports, CAS binders offer the Period Delta report, which compares any two periods — they don't have to be consecutive — so you can review month over month, year over year, or against any closed period you trust. See Period Delta: Compare Against Any Prior Period (CAS).

Related features

Tax and CAS binders can coexist for the same client. CAS binders work with Tax binders only and are independent of the Consolidation feature.
